My European adventure ended with an overnight stop in Innsbruck, Austria and an overnight stop in Cologne, Germany as I made my way back to Amsterdam. Nestled in a valley of the Austrian Alps, Innsbruck is a picturesque Austrian town.
I actually had the best sleep in Innsbruck at the Hotel Sailer! The hotel is centrally located and my bed was unbelievably comfortable. I also enjoyed watching The Simpson's in German as I relaxed in my room.
Unfortunately I only arrived in Cologne (Köln), Germany until late afternoon. I had enough time to discover that the train station has some really good food selections and the sausage vendor just outside the train station had a few really good sausages and beer. I did not make it to the chocolate factory, which a young Canadian traveler said is interesting, but I did go to the original Eau de Cologne location at 4711 Glockengasse. This is now a museum with a free-flowing fountain of the famous cologne.
I also walked around the cathedral in Cologne, Germany, which is right outside the train station. It is Germany's largest cathedral and was completed late in the 19th century. The Cologne Cathedral was hit 14 times during World War II but did not collapse. The Cologne Cathedral is the church with the largest facade and remains the second-tallest Gothic structure in the world. The cathedral is under the administration of the Roman Catholic Church.
