Europe 2002: Pisa
The tower does not appear to lean as I approached it.

Moving along another side, the tower is definitely leaning!
Making just a stop in Pisa, Italy on the way to Rome, I had just enough time to find the Leaning Tower and take a couple pictures. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is about a 25 minute walk from the train station. Since I was also pulling my luggage behind me since there are no lockers available at the train station, it may have taken slightly longer.

I did not really spend much time in Pisa getting to know the history of the tower. There appears to be a cathedral of some sort next to the Leaning Tower. Had time permitted and had I not had my luggage with me, I could have actually gone to the top of the tower. The line was moderately long and it appeared as if the number of people allowed inside is limited.

The view looking away from The Leaning Tower (above) shows the quaint, narrrow streets typical of most of the cities I visited on this trip.
Trying to capture on film the real lean of the tower is difficult. As I approached The Leaning Tower of Pisa, I did not notice much lean to the structure. As I made my way to the side, the lean became very visible!

I will always remember how excited I was to find the McDonald's at the Pisa train station served fresh, fried apple pies. McDonald's in the US have not served the fried version of their pies for over a decade and I really do miss them.
