The Amalfi Coast in Italy is an area of rugged terrain, scenic beauty, and picturesque towns from the southern part of the Sorrentine Peninsula to Salerno. The Amalfi Coast stretches for about 30 miles. It includes the towns of Positano,Praiano, Conca dei Marini, Amalfi, Atrani, Ravello, Minori, Maiori, Cetara, and Vietri sul Mare. Each town has its own character and sites to see..

The narrow road is high on the side of a cliff with only a short stone wall. Most of the towns along the coast are below the road, along the sea.

This video clip shows how gorgeous the drive along the Amalfi Coast actually is and this video clip shows some of the dangers of driving along the Amalfi Coast.

The Amalfitana main road, the only one that runs along the coast, was inaugurated in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon. The Amalfi Coast is a popular tourist destination due to its mild climate and amazing beauty. A popular way to see the Amalfi Coast is by bus although Joe and I found the drive quite easy when taking the proper precautions. The cliffs reach as high as 700 meters and often drop dramatically into the gorgeous blue Mediterranean below. Each of the towns along the Amalfi Coast seems to welcome visitors interested in spending time in their old fishing village.
