London Holiday London 2000: Day 5
Bodleian Library, the main research library at Oxford University a beautiful courtyard in the center of a building
For our second day trip from London we decided to experience the Frames Rickards Guided Shakespearean Country Bus Tour. The trip began in Oxford, England at Oxford University. We were guided through the narrow streets to view the building that make up Oxford University.

Our tour of Oxford continued in the traditional dining halls used. There actually is a head table and several other long wooden tables with long wooden benches to sit on. We entered just as the dining hall was being set up for lunch.
Jester in the middle of the main town area The birth home of Shakespeare
After Oxford, our tour took us to Stratford-Upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare in the Warwickshire countryside. This is a quaint town housing the Royal Shakespeare and Swan theaters. We also toured the fully renovated home of Shakespeare.
Joe eating the potato jacket Warwick Castle
Along the way to our next destination on the tour, our bus stopped by a traditional English pub for a traditional English lunch. We had a choice of a "potato jacket" or the "ploughmann's lunch" of cheese and bread. We all opted, much to our distaste, for the potato jackets. Joe had Chicken Curry and I had Prawns in Sauce (which was cold, pink mayo with petite shrimp). Remember, you should not visit England to sample the regional cuisine! Following lunch, our tour took us to Warwick Castle which has history dating back to the 10th Century! We explored many of the different parts of the castle as well as the Conservatory and Peacock Gardens and the Queen's boat house.
View from a tower View from a tower spiral staircase found in most towers
Upon entering the tower and touring the perimeter of the castle we were guided to walk in one direction and climb 537 steps to completion. As with most English historical structures, the towers of Warwick Castle contained spiral staircase. Best to be in shape when planning an English walking tour!
Amy and Joe locked up Tammy and Arian applying some torture to Joe
There is no shortage of Medievil torture or at least recreation of Medievil torture in England! At Warwick Castle we were again able to view and participate in the ancient forms of justice. Near this area is the entrance to the dungeon of Warwick Castle. Just being in that dungeon sent chills through my body!

The scenery around Warwick Castle is amazing!
