Homemade Ham and Bean Soup
This is a comfort food for me. A thick, hearty soup loaded with smokey ham and plump Navy beans served steaming hot with some saltine crackers.
Ingredients:
  6 slices bacon, chopped
  1 slice cooked ham, chopped
  ½ large onion, chopped
  1 stalk celery, diced
  2 carrots, chopped
  1 tsp. garlic-pepper seasoning
  1 tsp. black pepper
  ½ tsp. dried thyme
  2 tbl. flour
  2 cans chicken broth
  1 can Navy beans, undrained
Homemade Ham and Bean Soup

Instructions:
In a large soup kettle, cook bacon over medium heat under crisp. Add ham, onion, celery, and carrots. Cook until onion is soft. Season with garlic-pepper seasoning and black pepper.

Stir in flour and cook 3 minutes. Add chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Add Navy beans. Cook at a simmer for about 10 minutes.

Serves: 4
