This is a comfort food for me. A thick, hearty soup loaded with smokey ham and plump Navy beans served steaming hot with some saltine crackers. |

6 slices bacon, chopped
1 slice cooked ham, chopped
½ large onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, diced
2 carrots, chopped
1 tsp. garlic-pepper seasoning
1 tsp. black pepper
½ tsp. dried thyme
2 tbl. flour
2 cans chicken broth
1 can Navy beans, undrained |

In a large soup kettle, cook bacon over medium heat under crisp. Add ham, onion, celery, and carrots. Cook until onion is soft. Season with garlic-pepper seasoning and black pepper.
Stir in flour and cook 3 minutes. Add chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Add Navy beans. Cook at a simmer for about 10 minutes. |
