Carmel Apple Pie |
Forget the All-American apple pie. Now you can have a crumb topping smothered in gooey carmel sauce! For an extra treat, add a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. This is fabulous. |
| Ingredients: |
| For the pie: |
1 (9-in) flaky pie crust (store bought or homemade)
About 4 large apples, I usually mix varieties
1 tbl flour
½ - ¾ cup sugar, depending on the tartness of the apples
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ cup raisins (optional)
| For the crumb topping: |
3 tbl butter
½ cup oatmeal
½ cup flour
½ cup brown sugar
Instructions: |
Peel, core, and slice the apples. Combine the ingredients for the pie. Toss to coat all apple pieces. Gently put the apples into the pie crust. You will need enough apple slices to fill the pie crust.
Combine the flour, oatmeal, and brown sugar for the crumb topping. Cut the butter in until it resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle a thick layer of crumb topping over the apples.
Cover the edges of the pie crust with foil. Bake at 375º for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for 20 to 25 more minutes. Remove from the oven. While the pie is still hot, gently spoon your favorite carmel sauce over the top. Allow the pie to cool before serving.
