The Red Bus fleet (bus shown to the right) was introduced to Glacier National Park in the 1930's and quickly became a tourist attraction in their own right. The fleet of buses has recently been refurbished, with modern safety features and new propane- and gas-burning engines, to be 93% cleaner than earlier buses.
St. Mary's Lake (shown above and below) is 9.9 mi/16 km long and 289 ft/88 m deep. The island is Wild Goose Island. St. Mary's Lake is near the East Entrance to Glacier National Park.
Running Eagle Falls (Two Medicine Entrance on lower east side), shown in the last 8 photos below, is sacred to the Blackfeet (Sounther Piegan) people. Running Eagle Falls was named for a woman warrior respected for her great skill in battle. The falls area is one of the sites known to be used by Running Eagle (Pitamakan) for her vision quests. Just as Running Eagle came here for her guidance and strength, people today are renewed by the beauty of the falls. |
