San Francisco 2003: Monterey
Taking Highway 1 south along the California coast we decided to drive to Monterey Bay. We found this to be a spectucularly beautiful drive with numerous places to stop and enjoy the scenary.
Once in the Monterey area we found a scenic 17-mile drive through Pacific Grove and Carmel (Monterey Pennisula). There are 5 Entry Gates charging $8.25 (includes route map) for the chance to drive around Pebble Beach and the Del Monte Forest. Within in the drive is at least 5 golf courses, including Pebble Beach Golf Links. There are also many places to stop along the coast for breath-taking views of the Pacific Ocean. This is a truly gorgeous area of the world and one is left wondering how to get lucky enough to live among such splendor.

We also were able to watch a spectacular sunset on a beach as the waves crashed in upon the rocky shore (see photos below).
