Viva Las Vegas!

With 9 of the 10 largest hotels in the world and over 120,000 visitors in 2002, who would not want to visit Las Vegas? In February 2003, I traveled to Las Vegas with my friend, Christina, and a group of her friends for an extended weekend.

To the left are the photos that I took flying to Las Vegas, while in Las Vegas and flying home from Las Vegas. Strangely enough, I was as impressed with the views from the airplane as I was with Las Vegas! There is just no resisting views of the mountains, canyons and clouds from that elevation.

Las Vegas is an oasis in the desert. Although surrounded by residential areas, the main attraction to Las Vegas is The Strip. There is entertainment, dining, gambling, shopping and sight-seeing opportunities for almost everyone.

Some helpful travel tips . . .

1) Las Vegas was very cold while I was there. The daytime temperatures barely reached 60°F and the evening temperatures fell to around 30°F. Pick a warmer time of the year to visit Las Vegas to maximize time spent at the hotel pool.

2) Know how much you are gambling with and stay within the amount you have alotted to potentially lose.

3) Do not plan on sleeping in Las Vegas, just do it some other time and some other place.

4) Simulate a European vacation by traveling to Las Vegas. From the Paris Hotel and Casino with replicas of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and crepes to The Venetian with a Grand Canal and gondolas to Caesar's Place with the Colesseum and Forum Shops to Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino. Not quite the same as the real thing, but nothing ever is.
